Blog Assignment #5- Personal Profile

            For our last creative writing piece of the semester, I have decided to write a personal profile on my boss Stephanie, who just opened up her own cafe/bar/vintage shop in the new up and coming neighborhood, Ridgewood, Queens. Stephanie and her husband are quite the eccentric couple. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, but has lived all over the world, and best describes herself as one of the original New York "club kids" of the 1980s.  From London to Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria, she has collected a plethora of vintage antiques. Her plan was to open up a store where you could drink, shop, and eat Italian pastries while admiring her unique sense of taste. Two years later, and now she is ready to share her store with the neighborhood.

            It has been clear to me that Stephanie has impeccable taste for interior design. However, for my interview, I want to get to know what life was like in Brooklyn for her in the 1980s. I would like to interview her on her perspective of New York now vs New York in the 80s. I would also like to know her personal story, how she got by, living in so many different countries, and why she chose the free spirited path of life, so many of us dream of doing but too scared to take the risk. Here are a few interview questions I might use for this piece.

2.     What was the demographic of your neighborhood at that time?

3.     What was your favorite trend of the 1980s?

4.     Were you apart of the punk or club kids culture of the 1980s?

5.     Why were you drawn to this “club” or particular trend?

6.     Can you tell me your most memorable experience in Brooklyn?

7.     Why did you decide to move to the UK?

8.     How did you get around Europe and eventually end up in Nigeria?

9.     What was your most memorable experience about Africa?

10. What brought you back to Brooklyn after so many years?

11. Do you believe Brooklyn has lost its authenticity?

12. Can you describe to me the youth culture of the 1980s in Brooklyn and how it might be different now?
